Maybe it’s just because I wasn’t that invested in the ‘Caster Chronicles’ but halfway through I wondered why I’d bothered reading it. The plot I found confusing to follow and hard to really like. I didn’t feel like I connected to any of the characters, or understood any of their feelings. I got the same feeling with her and Link, that there was no real love there. But, let’s be honest, did Link really deserve Ridley? Weren’t they only together for the convenience of Ethan and Lena? Ridley breaks hearts and doesn’t care. A good YA book can exist without a love triangle. This was about as unnecessary as when John was introduced as a rival to Ethan. Not sorry.Īpparently, Ridley went to Europe and got herself in trouble (because trouble follows that girl like a creepy stalker). The clichés just come rolling in and even though the descriptions are meant to be ambiguous and develop intrigue in the reader, it makes me roll my eyes, sigh and not care. My pet peeve is when authors have characters that are described to have ‘a terrible secret’ or ‘a hidden past’. Or not a couple? Are they a couple? (I hate non-explicit romances.) But already thinks were looking dangerous for the two of them, and my enjoyment of the book. Should I take it as a good or bad sign that I was the first to take this book out?ĭespite my initial confusion, I managed to get into the story. And, if I was unwilling to pay £1.99 for a novella, I sure wasn’t paying £7.99 for the novel. Even if I didn’t completely fall in the love with the predecessor series (and believe me, I didn’t) I still feel the pressure to continue reading the authors’ works. When authors come out with a new series, featuring the same characters of their previous series, I just have to read it. OK, it’s been eight months, so it was safe to say that I found myself to be quite lost at the start of this book, especially since I wasn’t willing to pay £1.99 or so for the novella ‘Dangerous Dream’ that came before this full length novel. ![]() ![]() It’s been a little while since I’ve read ‘Beautiful Redemption’, the last in the Caster Chronicles series. Village officials announced last week that Sawall has signed an agreement to purchase the land from an M & I Bank holding company that took the property over from Bielinski Development Inc., after the well-known home building brothers Frank and Harry Bielinksi encountered internal management and economic problems. Plans for redeveloping the commercial neighborhood around the intersection of Main Street and Waukesha Avenue – the so-called Cannery Crossings – hinge on a Brookfield computer software entrepreneur, Arthur Sawall, purchasing the 10-acre vegetable caning site and developing it into a multi-use residential, commercial and retail complex. But for a little bit more, the Pegasus 39 will more than satisfy most runners.Powerful, strong, durable – every athlete and their clothes. If you’re not willing to spend more than $100 on a pair of running shoes, now is a good time to buy a pair of the Nike Pegasus 38, which should be on sale. It’s wonderfully reliable, and could easily get you around your first 5K, or your first marathon. Again, this is a brilliant bigger shoe and has enough durability to last for miles. It’s still definitely best suited to easy miles but has enough snap to cope with faster sessions, although quicker runners might find it a little hefty. Compared to similar shoes in the price range, such as the New Balance 1080v12, or the Brooks Glycerin 19, I’d argue that for a cheaper price tag, you’re getting a much more versatile shoe in the Pegasus. After falling out of love with the Pegasus for the past few years, I feel like the 39 is a big improvement. Would I go so far as to say this is my favorite Pegasus since the 36? In a word, yes. While I’ve never experienced heel slipping in the Pegasus, it definitely has a good locked-down feel. Out of the box, I was able to run for about 20 miles in the shoe without any blisters or hot spots. The fit is a massive improvement on previous iterations. Whether it’s the extra Zoom Air unit or the fact the Pegasus 39 is a lighter shoe, it definitely feels more responsive. ![]() Both versions felt a little sluggish and a little heavy. My main issue with the Pegasus 37 and Pegasus 38 was that I felt like they didn’t quite have enough energy return underfoot. I’ve been impressed with the versatility of this shoe - while there are definitely better shoes for faster sessions (I’d normally opt for the Nike Air Zoom Tempo Next%), the Pegasus 39 is reactive enough to pick up the pace should you need it. I wore the Pegasus 39 for a number of different runs - from slower, easy commuting runs with a backpack, to recovery runs, and a six-mile tempo session, with two-minute repeats. Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 39 review: Performance Like other Nike running shoes, the Pegasus 39 has slightly more of a flared heel - Nike says this is to optimize landing, helping for a faster heel-toe transition. The lugs are by no means deep enough to take this on a technical trail (we’ve found the best trail running shoes for that), but it’s a stable all-rounder for those everyday runs. The outsole is similar to previous iterations of the Pegasus - Nike calls it “waffle inspired” and there’s a good amount of grip for wet concrete and light trails. In the world of super shoes, the Pegasus has always been a more affordable running shoe, popular with beginners and more experienced runners alike. I originally played the game with a friend (who had graciously agreed to try one run-through of the game in hot-seat mode) and we decided after about two minutes that the only way we would ever be able to last through the game would be to turn all the game animations off. In fact, a P200MMX with 64MB RAM and a 16X CD-ROM doesn't come anywhere close to running them at an acceptable framerate. However, the animations can be extremely slow. In addition, there are animations or cartoons for each of the spaces on which one can land, and some of them are even mildly amusing. Hasbro Interactive have tried to spice the game up visually by giving you a first-person perspective as you travel across the board. Obviously, this can become a bit tedious, and the fact that - unlike the boardgame - you don't even have to pick up and move your piece or count the spaces means that you are really not much more than a spectator once you hit the "spinner" button. ![]() "Playing" the game simply requires hitting the button that says "spinner," and watching what happens next. The game can be played with up to six players, with any combination of humans and computer opponents (exception: no computer opponents are available for network play). Some people might consider this a questionable goal in light of the fact that it might encourage children to be more materialistic, but I would suggest that these people lighten up. Players will either collect or pay money on each space, or they will collect a "LIFE tile." LIFE tiles consist of cards with random dollar values that the player reveals only upon traversing the entire game board and "retiring." The object of the game is not to be the one to traverse the board first (or even last - you don't win if you live the longest!) but to have the most money after everyone has finished (retired). Landing on a given space causes some "life-related" event to occur, such as having to pay taxes, or going on vacation, or some such. Gameplay consists of advancing across the board, which is divided into a number of spaces. If I really wanted to play a game of this sort (again, as a child), I would be far more inclined to play the boardgame and interact with the other players directly and move the pieces myself rather than focus on the computer screen. If I were a child and old enough to play a game of this sort, there would probably be far more interesting things for me to do on the computer than play The Game of LIFE. For this reason, I'm not sure how useful a computer version of this game is. ![]() As a result, this is a game that children will play with their friends or that the whole family will play together. Consequently, everyone has about an equal chance of winning any given playing. Thus, players don't get punished for making bad decisions: they simply get punished for bad luck. You simply spin the spinner and move as many spaces as it tells you. The Game of LIFE is an excellent children's game because there are a minimal number of decisions to make during play. Hasbro Interactive are releasing quite a few of their boardgame titles on computer (such as the aforementioned Sorry! as well as Axis & Allies), and as a result we're now able to play The Game of LIFE without having to clean off the dining room table. Of course, this is 1998, so it seems almost natural that a version would be released for the computer. While the fact was that the only thing you might learn was a bizarre caricature of life according to stereotypes formed during the 1950's, The Game of LIFE was certainly one of the children's/family games that most people of my generation will remember having played on at least a few occasions, along with such games as Sorry! and Clue. "You can learn about life when you play The Game of LIFE!" Many (American) readers will instantly recognize this catchy television jingle of some twenty years ago promoting the old boardgame by this name. ![]() When it was suggested to Tumblr user shittynicos that Nico was "secretly Satan", the user responded with a poorly-drawn fan art which included a caption where Nico simply replies "Secretly?"
